Kelly Wearstler introduces Crescendo, in collaboration with The Rug Company

Kelly Wearstler’s newest rug collection, Crescendo, marks the designer’s 10th collaboration with The Rug Company and a significant evolution in their partnership. This collection celebrates the synthesis of design and craftsmanship through six new textile designs each available in two colourways.

Drawing inspiration from music, Crescendo explores the interplay between geometric forms and organic shapes, creating visual movement akin to musical rhythm. A diverse library of natural materials, including the finest wool, silk, nettle and linen have been hand knotted by The Rug Company’s artisanal weavers in Nepal, using a combination of traditional techniques that add a sculptural quality. Each design presents refined yet bold, merging raw materials and intricate artistry, creating pieces that are both visually striking and tactically engaging.

Arwen presents a contemporary, checkerboard design. Blocks of silk squares are elevated using a cut-pile technique upon a wool and nettle blend base. Available in two colourways, Arwen Amber has a warm, subtle palette, while Arwen Moss showcases more of a contrast with moss and olive hues.

Runa showcases various tonal squares layered upon one another to create a trompe l’oeil effect. Each block has been handknotted by our exceptional weavers in Nepal using the finest silk that sings against a Tibetan wool base. Runa Clay features a warm, neutral palette that spans from terracotta tones to light apricot, whereas, as its name implies, Runa Pistachio presents a spectrum of green hues.

Spire leans into the raw qualities of natural materials to illustrate this contemporary collage design. Asymmetric silk formations interact across a loop pile nettle base, creating a textural dichotomy that contrasts both texturally and visibly. Spire Birch features undyed nettle, providing natural colour variation that subtly contrasts the tan shade of the silk motif. Alternatively, Spire Ember contrasts lustrous brown silk against a tactile lightened nettle base, creating a more pronounced version of this design.

Riven displays a subtle yet striking geometric motif that offers multiple angular perspectives. The linework of this design has been handknotted entirely in silk with a raised cut pile to appear elevated from the surface. Available in two colourways, Riven Dune’s undyed nettle base establishes a natural warmth, whereas Riven Alabaster features a lightened nettle and linen base, creating a chalky, lighter complexion.

Rich in texture, Elowen demonstrates the true craftsmanship of traditional rug-making techniques. A complex combination, the base of this design begins with a nettle loop pile construction that transitions to a cut pile technique using wool and silk. A truly tactile experience underfoot, Elowen Peony offers rich clay hues, while, as its name suggests, Elowen Sandstone has a warmer sandy undertone.

Crux introduces a striking motif of seamless gradients that transition across the surface. Natural light dances across the radiant silk blocks, enhancing the tonal variations. This design features a handknotted white wool base that divides the radiant blocks with triangular shapes that weave throughout the main motif. Crux is available in two colourways. Crux Cognac showcases cool, metallic hues that glide across the surface, whereas Crux Auburn offers a warmer alternative with champagne tones.
