Kelly Wearstler Debuts Transcendence

The 2021 collection includes a range of furniture, lighting, and décor that celebrates the unexpected, and harnesses the vibrant energy of Southern California

Los Angeles, 26th May 2021 - This May, Kelly Wearstler introduces her 2021 collection of furniture, lighting and décor, Transcendence. The collection explores materiality and challenges scale to create pieces that are at once elegant and whimsical. Transcendence includes eight unique series of furniture, six lighting lines and a number of objects.

Often derived from designs developed for private clients, the Transcendence collection is an extension of Wearstler’s visual language, expanding familiar motifs, whilst finding opportunities to introduce entirely new concepts.

“Pushing the boundaries of each material was the point of departure for this collection, transcending the traditional form of each raw material” Wearstler explains. “I look to find the tension in each piece, balancing the familiar with the unexpected to create something that is both inviting and provides a new perspective”.

The collection was designed at Wearstler’s West Hollywood studio and she partners with a vast network of world-class craftspeople and artisans, many of whom are also based in SoCal, to bring her concepts to life. This proximity allows her the ability to collaborate closely with creatives and push the limits of the possible – imbuing each piece with an undeniable California cool.

Highlights from the Transcendence collection include the Oblique series, inspired by a striped wood dining table designed for a residential project. Expanding the stripe patterns to a collection of tables and varying in shapes, the Oblique series is made from angle-cut hardwood, hand-selected and laminated together piece by piece, with softened edge detailing between each individual section.

The Triad series, also initially designed for a residential project, was developed to be used as a side or cocktail table. The irregular silhouette shapes are wrapped in thick brass sheets, bent and welded to wrap forms of inset marble with a hand-waxed patina.

With its monolithic massing and sculptural play on materiality, the Colina series is an approachable iteration of modern organic design. This range is made by local LA artisans from hand-formed resin with a Walnut interior. The plaster-like exterior finish is available in three colour-ways: White, Cinnabar, or Shadow.

With their fluid form and naturally occurring variations in colour, the Rarity Large Bowl and Catchall make for uniquely impactful statement pieces. The organic shapes of the bowls were hand-carved by artisans, creating a mould in which the pigmented concrete could be poured. Due to their handmade nature, no two will ever be alike.

Wearstler employs lighting to bring delicate texture and a rich sense of depth to her interiors. The new lighting collection’s architectural and sculptural forms include a wide range of materials, from Burnished Brass, Bronze, Polished Nickel, Frosted Glass, Stone and Alabaster. The offering includes table lamps, sconces, pendants and chandeliers.

The Transcendence collection will be available in full on kellywearstler.com from 26th May 2021.
