ZUMA AND DUNE, BY KELLY WEARSTLER FOR SERAX
[EMBARGO 01 SEPTEMBER 2023]
Launching September 2023
This September, Wearstler will launch her debut tableware collection in collaboration with Serax. Echoing Wearstler's penchant for mixed materiality, the Zuma and Dune ranges span ceramics, glassware, wood and marble accessories.
Comprising a conversation between past and present, Zuma alludes to modern and historic technologies. The Zuma family images futuristic vector grids, alongside a stripped-down graphic pattern with a hand-crafted feel. Patterns vary across the porcelain tableware, which is intended to be mixed and matched. Complementary stemware draws upon the amber tones found in ancient glass, and takes a delicate, rectilinear shape, offering unexpected harmony with the graphic patterned dishes.
Dune explores a marriage between materiality and forms of the natural world. Exhibiting two-tone finishes of matte and high gloss, the ceramic collection presents variegated dishes and platters with sculptural crests and ridges that echo ancient pottery techniques; whilst relaxed, organic wood pieces round out the elemental family.
HERE NOR THERE BY ROTGANZEN FOR KELLY WEARSTLER
Launching 13 July 2023
This July, Dutch art collective Rotganzen will debut its second collection for Kelly Wearstler’s online Gallery: Here Nor There.
The collection is an exploration of materiality and sentiments of place, designed to illustrate the intersection of historic cities and the American landscape. Rotganzen and Wearstler set out to create objects inspired by four old-world cities – Berlin, London, Paris and Venice – to create conversation with their American namesakes in New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas and California.
The pieces present mesmerising dichotomies between the cities, celebrating the concrete robustness of Berlin in comparison to the natural vastness of the New Hampshire White Mountains; the busyness of London in contrast to the quietude of Ohio’s Erie Trail; the independent elegances of Paris and the American Southwest; and the contained beauty of Venice opposed to the wild eccentricity of the West Coast.
MOCK BY GENTNER FOR KELLY WEARSTLER
Launching 13 July 2023
Renowned Chicago-based artist and designer Christopher Gentner will debut his first collection, Mock, for Kelly Wearstler’s digital Gallery this July.
Sculpted from steel and finished with pewter, the works capture both industrial and natural world elements, paying homage to Genter’s artistry with metal fabrication and his creative dialogue with Wearstler. The three-piece collection includes a cocktail table, side table and a bench.
To create the works for Mock, Gentner prepared a steel base by heating it to 600 degrees fahrenheit, then introduced molten pewter at the same temperature. As the surface cooled, gravity moved the liquid pewter throughout the sculpted alloy forms, creating a mercurial landscape texture. While the shapes remain the same for each piece, the surfaces created are never the same, each one presenting a unique expression of the creation process.
